Impact & Evidence Scores

Play Video about Impact and evidence scores

What are impact and evidence scores?

Our SelfDecode DNA reports provide you with personalized recommendations based on your DNA.

We use your genes , Impact and Evidence to prioritize these recommendations from most effective to least effective for your body.

So what does Impact and Evidence mean? And how do we use all 3 to give you the best, most accurate recommendations?

Let’s start with Evidence.

Evidence is determined by analyzing all scientific, peer-reviewed studies that have done trials on this specific recommendation to see whether or not it actually helps with your health topic.

Once we look at all the studies, we give the recommendation an Evidence score that ranges from 1 to 5.

A score of 5 means that it’s FDA-approved and a medical body or other agency recommends this.

A score of 1 or 2 means that only a couple of human studies have been done, or there have been a lot of studies that have ambiguous results.

All of our recommendations have at least one clinical trial that has shown effectiveness, but the higher the score, the more supported it is by science!

Next, we take a look at Impact.

With Impact, we look at how much the recommendation helps in improving and/or preventing the condition.

We use the scientific information available to us and your DNA data to assign an Impact score from 1 to 5.

A score of 5 means that it has a large effect or… impact on improving your health in regards to the health topic being discussed.

An impact score of 1 means it only gives you a slight improvement.

Now, let’s put everything together by looking at Jim, who has the bad gene variants for heart health and is contemplating on whether or not he should take Omega-3.

Omega-3 has been heavily linked to heart health and is actually FDA-approved, so that gives it an Evidence score of 5.

Without looking at any genes, we know that Omega-3 is generally effective at improving heart health and so has an Impact Score of 3.

But because of the gene variants that Jim carries, Omega-3 is actually even more effective and important for his heart health.

So, his Impact Score is bumped up to a 4.

With an Evidence Score of 5 and an Impact Score of 4, this is definitely one of the first things that Jim should implement in his life!

Using this process, SelfDecode is able to provide you with personalized AND prioritized recommendations, to help you reach your health goals!
